Lessons

Study harmony in the school of Ted Greene.

My aspiration is to share with others what I learned from my private studies with Ted Greene, as well as music theory, ear training and solo guitar arrangements.

If you live outside of Japan and are interested in online lessons, please feel free to write to me.

01

Who lessons are for

For players who have heard Ted Greene’s playing and want to understand it rather than imitate it. For guitarists who already know their chords but cannot yet make them sing. For anyone drawn to chord melody, to inner voices, to harmony that moves.

Lessons are one-to-one and online, over Teams, Google Meet, or Zoom, in English.

What we cover

〜 Harmony & voicing systems 〜

Ted’s voicing systems on every string set — how each shape connects to the next, and why it sounds the way it does.

〜 Chord melody & solo guitar 〜

Building complete solo arrangements: melody on top, deeply sophisticated chords beneath, walking bass and harp harmonics.

〜 Voice leading 〜

Moving inner lines so that the harmony breathes. This is the heart of what Ted taught and the hardest thing to learn from a book.

〜 Modulation, intros & endings 〜

Surprising, beautiful key changes; intros, outros, turnarounds and bluesy variations drawn from my lessons with Ted.

〜 Ear training & music theory 〜

Everything begins with, and is based on, theory. We ground each idea so you can hear it before you play it.

〜 Ted Greene repertoire 〜

Arrangements and studies as Ted taught them to me.

Student Reviews
“Lessons with Tsuyoshi are so pressure-free, and so gentle and encouraging that I truly believe him to be the perfect person to study with if you have an interest in really pursuing a deep understanding of harmony on the guitar, specifically in the school of Ted Greene.”

“He carries the Ted Greene lineage with real reverence — not as a credential, but as something he’s genuinely responsible for passing on. That care shows up in how he teaches: patient, precise, deeply generous with what he knows, and completely without ego about it.”
