One of Ted’s tips 

Ted always said diatonic chords were very important.

It sounds very nice just playing descending diatonic chords.

As shown in the grids below.  

Also I have added some melodic embellishments for the second one.

Also you can play diatonic chords in 4th intervals,-for example  : CM7  FM7  Bm7b5  Em7 ～

Ted shows some very nice patterns using this concept in his famous book  “Modern Chord Progressions”
